Welcome to the Cecchetti Society Trust Newsletter

Trustees hope all our readers have enjoyed a good summer break.
In this issue we are pleased to report on the success of the Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition that took place in July in Michigan, USA. Students representing the ISTD Cecchetti Faculty are pictured above with the Faculty’s CICB delegates Kate Simmons and Gillan Hurst. We are also delighted to report that the work of Diane van Schoor was recognised by the CICB with the presentation of a special award.

Looking ahead to the autumn, the Cecchetti Society Trust Vocational Classical Ballet Awards will take place on Sunday 24th November 2024 at Elmhurst Ballet School. Applications are now open for competitors and information for teachers and students is given below. Trustees hope many of our supporters will be able to attend this very special event and enjoy the perfomances of the talented students taking part. We would appreciate our readers sharing this information as widely as possible.

Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Competition 2024

The Trust was proud to support the CICB Competition that took place in from 21st - 28th July in Michigan. 42 young dancers from Cecchetti Societies around the world came together to take part in this prestigious event, along with their teachers, coaches and supporters. Congratulations to the Cecchetti Council of America for their excellent organisation of the event and to all the participating dancers.

Vocational Awards 2024/25
Elmhurst Ballet School 24th November 2024
Applications Open!

The Cecchetti Society Trust is pleased to offer young UK and International students the exciting opportunity to participate in these Awards. The Awards incorporate the Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship, the Barbara Geoghegan Award and for the first time this year, the Cyril Beaumont Scholarship.

This high profile competition has generous monetary awards provided by the Trust to support classical ballet training. The competition is open to students training at vocational levels who meet the relevant criteria. Specific eligibility for each award (including age, level of Cecchetti study and examination requirements) are given in the Terms & Conditions.

Applications are now open and further information including an Awards Poster, the Terms & Conditions and an Application Form can be found using the button link below. NB Application deadline is 21st October 2024. The Awards are open to the public and information about the programme timings for the day and ticket booking will be published on our website using the same link.

VOCATIONAL AWARDS

Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Award presented to Diane van Schoor

Diane van Schoor has been announced as a recipient of the prestigious Cecchetti International Classical Ballet Award. The Award was inaugurated by CICB in 2022 to recognise ‘Outstanding International Contribution and Dedication’ - having benefitted all CICB member organisations, and the wider Cecchetti International community. In 2022 Sheila Kennedy was recipient of the inaugural medal. In 2024 CICB has honoured Richard Glasstone MBE and Diane van Schoor.

In our May Newsletter we congratulated Richard Glasstone on being presented with his award earlier this year. Diane van Schoor was presented with her medal by CICB Chair, Gail Myburgh at the CICB Competition Gala in recognition of Diane’s exceptional work for Cecchetti classical ballet, including the Artistic Direction of the recording of the Enrico Cecchetti Diploma. Many congratulations to Diane on receiving this well deserved prestigious Award.
